Mobile Cob Oven
As part of Asian Art Initiative’s 2015 Pearl Street Micro-grants, Provisional Island built a fully functional wood fired oven out of cob — a traditional building material made of clay, sand, and straw. Evoking a pre-industrial past and a post-industrial future, the Mobile Oven will serve as the center piece of several events throughout the summer.
Provisional Island’s first event with the Mobile Cob Oven took place in the Pearl Street Alley behind Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia’s Chinatown North neighborhood.
